Free passage for pedestrians

21.12.2011.

JKP ‘Parking Servis' has launched a new socially responsible campaign on pedestrian safety in traffic called ‘FREE PASSAGE FOR PEDESTRIANS'.

The campaign is educational with an aim to appeal with the drivers to take into account the pedestrians when parking their vehicles.

From the next week all drivers, who park in such a manner that they block the pedestrian crossings or make it impossible for pedestrians to pass will be given a leaflet by the JKP ‘Parking Servis' staff. The leaflet will clearly show how the vehicle should correctly be parked.

The biggest problems arise when the drivers do not respect horizontal and vertical signalization. The problems also occur in the streets in which parking is allowed partly on the pavement and partly on the street and a driver take the entire pavement and leave no passage for pedestrians.

The aim of this campaign is to appeal with drivers to pay attention to how they park their vehicles and leave enough space for pedestrians. In addition to leaflets, JKP ‘Parking Servis' will set up ramps on the worst affected areas, which will prevent the drivers from parking their vehicles improperly.

During 2011. JKP ‘Parking Servis' has made great efforts to increase safety of pedestrians in traffic. Within the campaign ‘Pupils ask you - slow down by the school' a safety signalization was set in the zone of ‘Sveti Sava' primary school. In front of the school in McKenzie street we have installed a protective fence with reflective stripes on the columns and in Kneginje Zorke Street two speed bumps with a vertical signalization.

Another 20 Belgrade primary schools which are situated on critical locations will get suitable additional signalization. Next week it will be primary schools ‘Skadarlija', ‘Stari Grad', ‘Laza Kostić', ‘Novi Beograd'' ‘Desanka Maksimović', ‘Zvezdara' and although it is not on Belgrade territory the primary school in Subotište.

Another major step in raising the level of pedestrians' safety in traffic is the City of Belgrade campaign ‘Pedestrians rule' in which JKP ‘Parking Servis' has a priority in towing away vehicles which are parked near or on pedestrian crossings.
